Introduction

Thigh lift surgery is performed to address excess skin of the thighs, most commonly following significant weight loss. Excess thigh skin may cause chafing, discomfort, or difficulty with clothing fit.

Dr Raymond routinely performs liposuction-assisted thigh lift surgery, meaning liposuction is performed prior to skin excision. This approach helps reduce trauma to lymphatic channels, nerves, and veins beneath the skin and allows more controlled contouring.

In patients with more extensive skin excess, an extended thigh lift may be required.

Thigh lift surgery is performed under general anaesthesia by Dr Raymond and his experienced surgical team at Hunter Valley Private Hospital or Newcastle Private Hospital. Where surgery is performed at Newcastle Private Hospital, VASER ultrasound-assisted liposuction may be utilised when appropriate.

The extent of surgery — limited or extended — is determined on an individual basis. Thigh lift surgery may be performed alone or combined with other body contouring procedures.

Compression garments are worn for four to six weeks, which we provide. Swelling and bruising are expected and gradually improve over several weeks.

Most patients resume light activities within two to three weeks, with return to strenuous activity guided over six weeks.

Scars continue to mature for 12–18 months.

Medically Indicated Thigh Lift

Thigh lift surgery may be medically indicated following massive weight loss, where strict Medicare criteria are met (item number 30169).

Modest Medicare and health fund rebates apply, resulting in an estimated out-of-pocket cost typically $13,700 – $16,300, depending on the extent of surgery required.

Self-Funded Thigh Lift

For patients who do not meet Medicare criteria or who are self-funding:

  • Total all-inclusive cost: $21,250 – $24,110
