Dr Raymond performs liposuction as a standalone procedure and, more commonly, in combination with other body contouring surgeries such as abdominoplasty. Each treatment plan is individualised based on anatomy, skin quality, and overall goals.
Liposuction involves the removal of fat through small incisions using fine cannulas. The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia.
Dr Raymond offers both traditional power-assisted liposuction and ultrasound-assisted liposuction (VASER). VASER uses ultrasound energy to selectively loosen fat cells prior to removal. This technology allows fat to be removed more efficiently while minimising trauma to surrounding tissues such as blood vessels and connective tissue.
VASER liposuction may be beneficial in selected patients where:
VASER liposuction is available at Newcastle Private Hospital, while traditional mechanical liposuction techniques are available at Hunter Valley Private Hospital.
Your consultation includes a detailed assessment of fat distribution, skin quality, underlying muscle tone, and overall body proportions. Dr Raymond will discuss which areas may be suitable for liposuction, whether skin tightening or excisional surgery may be required, and whether liposuction alone is appropriate.
Recovery varies depending on the extent of liposuction and whether it is combined with other procedures.
Most patients wear compression garments over treated areas for four to six weeks, which we provide. Swelling and bruising are expected and gradually settle over several weeks.
Light activities are typically resumed within one to two weeks, with return to more strenuous activity guided by the extent of surgery and clinical progress.
Final contour continues to evolve over several months as swelling resolves.
